Join us for our first community meeting of 2019!
We are excited to announce that this event will feature a talk by Ismail Ali, Policy and Advocacy Counsel of MAPS. (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies)
The worldwide revival of interest in visionary and psychedelic plants and molecules has inspired many people to begin to devise alternative systems of learning, governance, and healing. But what exactly does that all mean? It is exciting, but not so simple; questions of reciprocity, justice, access, and practicality remain. This talk will cover contexts of use that are informed by the traumas of discrimination, capitalism, and poverty; that are beyond the present “pay-for-service” economic healthcare paradigm; and outside of the narrow understanding of the medication-for-healing model. What’s next?
Ismail will lead a breakout session including a Q & A period to refect and dive deep into the thought provoking material in his talk. We will also have breakout groups with topics like psychedelics 101 for newcomers. The purpose of this gathering is to facilitate connection and community amongst folks in the SF bay area who are interested in psychedelics. We will serve cacao, provide healthy snacks and a psychedelic raffle.
We will begin around 7 PM, please arrive by 6:45 so that we can start on time. We are located on the third floor. When you arrive, please sign in at the door. We are asking a $5-$20 donation to the society, no one turned away for lack of funds.
San Francisco Psychedelic Society is evolving to have more frequent and diverse events in the Bay Area. We are looking forward to having you at our community meeting to get involved and meet others!
