Mycologist Alan Rockefeller will give a lecture on the identification of psilocybin mushrooms. It will include an overview of all North American species, focusing on the species which occur in the San Francisco Bay area. The audience will learn important characteristics for accurate identification and how to spot poisonous lookalikes. Participants are invited to bring legal mushrooms for a hands-on discussion of how to identify mushrooms you encounter.

Mushroom identification specialist Alan Rockefeller will lead a mushroom hunt in Berkeley on Sunday, December 23 at 2pm. Attendees will learn the names and edibility of all of the mushrooms we find and are encouraged to bring mushrooms and mushroom photos for identification. Collecting of edible and toxic mushrooms is permitted, any hallucinogenic mushrooms we see will only be photographed and must be left where they were. Bring a cell phone, point, and shoot or DSLR camera and tripod. Photography instruction will be provided to show you how to take the best possible mushroom photos with whatever kind of equipment you bring.
