Integration Circle: Understanding the Psychological Dynamics
August 14, 2019 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm
Topic: Understanding the Psychological Dynamics of the Psychedelic Experience
An Overview of the Terrain & the Essential Stages of the Ordeal
We are excited to announce that now the SF Integration Circle is happening twice a month, in cooperation with Twisted Thistle Apothecary, with a new educational format! The capacity for our group is limited to 15 people, so please RESERVE your spot ahead of time by purchasing your ticket online or RSVP by email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Keep in mind that RSVPing doesn’t guarantee a ticket.
Suggested sliding scale: $10-$20. No one turned away for lack of funds.
Our circle will begin with a tea ceremony, short Qigong, and expansion meditation. It will be followed by a 5-10 min educational presentation about a specific framework in an open discussion format, and it will continue to hold the space for sharing, questions, and feedback.
If you’ve had a psychedelic experience (including near-death, meditation, and other spiritual experiences) that you are struggling to make sense of, this integration circle provides an opportunity to share, explore, and understand its impact as a community. The circle will be facilitated by psychologists and counsellors with extensive experience in clinical, shamanic, and indigenous healing practices.
We ask the members to arrive 10 mins early to start on time.
Please bring a journal, a pen, a friend, and any other sacred items you?d like to place on the altar.
This is a sober meeting. The group discourages any use of psychoactive drugs during group meetings, and neither provides illicit substances nor referrals to illegal psychedelic services.
About our Hosts:
Sonia Doulton is an integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor who has worked with mental health in London, UK and Auckland, NZ, in both private practice and in the public sector. As an integrative therapist Sonia has always been curious about what else can be therapeutic beyond the traditional psychotherapy models, and in fact her Masters dissertation research was an exploration of the therapeutic potential of acting. Being passionate about psychedelics, Sonia has been investigating how non-ordinary states of consciousness can be therapeutic and facilitate healing and self-actualization. She believes that psychedelic practices, with the right set and setting, can produce unprecedented results in the field of psychiatry. Sonia is a graduate of the program Psychedelic-assisted Therapy and Research at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), she works in a ketamine-assisted clinic and runs her online international psychotherapy, counseling and coaching practice.
Howie Whitehouse received a PhD in East-West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in 2005. His dissertation research entitled, The Challenges of the Return from a Shamanic Odyssey: A Heuristic Exploration, involved a ten-year apprenticeship with Pablo Sanchez MSW, a Native American curandero, who?s approach derives from the lineage of Maria Sabina. He is Co-founder of the Human Science Research Institute at UWG. He’s worked as a Research Associate at Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute, UCSF, MacArthur Foundation Research Program on Conscious & Unconscious Mental Processes; Staff Counselor, Rhythm Society, Council on Spiritual Practices; Extended Faculty at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS); Recipient of a Circle of Bridge-Makers Award in 2004; Alum. Advisor & Board Member, E.R.I.E., 2012-18; Peer-Counselor, M.A.P.S. 2017 Psychedelic Science Conference Workshop, Integrating Psychedelic Experiences. Recent Presentations: Psychedelic Society, ERIE & Spiritual Emergence Group at CIIS. Current research interests include: shamanism, sacred initiation process for post-modern culture, Integral Psychology of Sri Aurobindo, The Self Archetype as the Vessel for Lucid Awakening.
Damla Gungor is a core team member of San Francisco Psychedelic Society, and it was her experience with SFPS that inspired her to explore alternative visions in psychedelic activism, integration, community, and education. Her interest in exploring non-ordinary states of consciousness began with living with a person with schizophrenia as a child. She began studying spiritual emergence or psychosis, and how exploration of shamanism, plant medicine, and roots of psychedelic psychotherapy can be helpful as healing modalities. She co-facilitates integration circles, and her focus is on holding the space with unconditional love, and total acceptance. She is currently studying theater, movement, art, and Tibetan Buddhism to create an integrative approach to transform self and society. Past studies: ?Somatic Experiencing: Healing Trauma? with Shakti Rose in 2016, ? ?Mindful-Self Compassion? & ?Resilience and Post-Traumatic Growth? with Linda Graham in 2017, ?Drugs and Brain? with David Presti in 2018, “Alexander Technique” with Kari Prindl in 2019.
